Must Have

Guests of the "Northern capital" traditionally take with them tons of emotions and Gbytes of pictures. But, surely, the most memorable thing that tastes longest is usually local food specialty. In St. Petersburg that definitely is the confabulate smelt fish.

Fished not only in St. Petersburg, true, but being more a symbol of a long awaited spring coming. The ritual of eating smelt is a seasonal tradition, akin to the Maslenitsa (Shrovetide). Places where smelt is sold one can find by smell, which surprisingly feels like fresh cucumbers not fish.

So it is not by coincidence that it was St. Petersburg where the restaurant with same name was open. It instantly became popular with both locals and guests of the city.
